Vermont Highland Games

Join us for the Vermont Highland Games! The games are held at the Highland Center for the Arts in Vermont’s picturesque Northeast Kingdom. While the games will have a mix of indoor/outdoor offerings, the dance competition will be held indoors this year.

TIME

Pre-Premier Registration opens at 8:30am and dancing begins at 9:00am. 

Premier Registration opens at 11:30am and dancing begins no earlier than 12pm.

Premier Hornpipe Challenge

**Premier dancers ages 30 & Over may register and compete in the designated 30 & Over group with cut steps OR the regular Premier group with full steps, not both. Any Premier dancer may enter the Hornpipe Challenge.

Awards

  • Prizes for dances will be awarded in each class. Trophies will be awarded in each class except for Primary class. 
  • Cash prizes will be awarded to the oldest Premier age group and additional age groups at the organizer’s discretion. Cash prizes will also be awarded for the Premier Hornpipe Challenge.

General Rules

  • Competitions will be conducted in accordance with R.S.O.B.H.D. and ScotDance USA regulations.
  • All dance competitors, teachers, and parents are expected to comply with the ScotDance USA Code of Ethics.
  • All dancers MUST have valid ScotDance USA or ScotDance Canada registration card; no exceptions. No entry will be accepted without a current registration number. Dancers MUST present their registration card the day of the competition to receive their competition number.
  • Competitors must register online no later than May 31, 2026. Late entries will not be accepted. No field entries accepted. Entries are non-refundable.
  • Age groupings will be determined by entries received.
  • Any competitor not reporting when their number or group is called may not be allowed to dance.
  • Dancers registering last will be first to dance.
  • Dancers must fill in for the Reel when asked to do so.
  • Competitors must remain in costume until all medals and trophies have been awarded.
  • In accordance with ScotDance USA policies, dancers must not change costumes in public view.
  • The decisions of the Adjudicator are final. Petitions should be filed to the Dance Organizer no later than 48 hours after the event. The petition should be in writing and accompanied with a $25.00 fee that will be refunded if petition is warranted.
  • Three-Month Rule – Judges may not adjudicate any competitor that they have instructed for a period of three months. If a competitor has entered a competition with a judge they have attended a class or workshop within the last three months, the dancer must step down from the competition.
  • Photography and Video Taping: Please be respectful of other dancers’ privacy and only photograph and/or video your dancer.
